Leaving Utah

I'm going to try to keep the blog updated while I'm on my 3 week trip to Nepal. We'll see how long that lasts...

The first post is that I'm leaving SLC. Here's a photo of me and my bags. Turns out it's kinda tough to carry 2 backpacks at the same time.

Anyway, a nosy lady at the airport (I'm a scroogy traveler and don't like talking to others) asked me where I was going. I told her Nepal, and then joked that it was on the exact other side of the world. Then I became less confident about my statement and looked it up on this website: http://www.freemaptools.com/tunnel-to-other-side-of-the-earth.htm

As it turns out, the antipode (fancy word for exact other side of the globe) of Utah is somewhere in the Indian Ocean off the eastern coast of Madagascar. Not too far from Nepal in the grand scheme of things, but my overconfident snarky comment to the nosy lady was nevertheless off the mark. I didn't apologize. She'll never know the difference.

For those who were wondering, the antipode of Nepal is off the coast of Chile.

These posts will get weirder; I'm not even jet-lagged yet.

Addendum: nosy lady is nowhere near me on the plane.
