Another side of bacon

It is with great joy that I can say, "I AM EMPLOYED!" It was a long, long, long (did I mention long?) process to find a job, but thank the Lord it finally happened. I just accepted a position at SelectHealth and now Grant and I have another side of bacon to help pay the bills.

SelectHealth is a non-profit health insurance company owned by Intermountain Healthcare, one of the big hospital systems in Utah. I will be working in their communications department as the "Brand Communications Specialist." Most of you are probably wondering...what does that even mean? Basically, I am in charge of managing how the brand is used, teaching other employees about the brand and how to communicate it to the public, publishing a biweekly employee newsletter, and approving all outside communications (brochures, commercials, etc.) to make sure they represent the brand. It is going to be a new field for me that builds on my public relations and graphic design experience.

As you can imagine, I am really excited. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. My wonderful hubby has champaign waiting in the fridge for us to drink tonight. It is definitely time to celebrate. My mom flies in tomorrow and I have a feeling some more celebrating is in my future. Thank you for all your finding a job prayers, they certainly worked.

they should go...

The two newest additions to the Morshedi family became the two latest departures from the Morshedi family today. Nearing the end of our one week trial with the 2 dogs, it was becoming increasingly clear that: A) one of these two dogs is insane, and B) we should not be responsible for other life forms.

So we decided to return Bits and Winky to the humane society today, where we are sure that they will be quickly adopted by someone else since they're so cute. We were a tiny bit sad at first, but it took us all of dinner to completely get over it. Yes, a nice, quiet, calm dinner...without having to worry if something is pooping on my carpet.

We've learned a few good lessons from this past week. In no particular order...

1. chihuahuas are cute
2. 50% of chihuahuas are crazy
3. dog farts can be killer
4. we are not responsible enough to take care of living creatures
5. #4 does not include plants
6. we are good at entertaining small living things for short periods of time, including dogs, cats, babies, etc.
7. if you want us to watch your dog/cat/baby we would be glad to, for up to one week, at which time we will return it to you in good condition

Should they stay or should they go?

So, Grant forgot to mention that we have Bitz and Winky on a trail bases right now. We have a week to decide if we want to keep them or not. It is definitely going to be a hard decision. On the one hand they are really cute, don't bark, and sleep through the night. But, we do have to deal with Bitz biting every now and then, picking up poop on walks, and the responsibility of dealing with living beings other than ourselves. It is a responsibility that we are not sure we are ready for. As each day goes by, they get cuter and cuter and closer and closer to our hearts. But then I just have to remember Bitz finding some black shoe polish and chewing it yesterday...you can imagine.

We will keep you posted on what we decide. I am just glad the shelter has a trial period available. Here is a picture of Grant with the dogs. They really love him.

The morning before we got the dogs we went on a breakfast picnic to Sugar House park right down the road. Grant had won a gift card to a local coffee shop and I made egg and cheese bisquits. It was a beautiful morning (remember you southerners that it is actually cool at night and in the early mornings here, I know it is hard to believe). Grant took some great photos of the park that I am going to attempt to paint.

Dogs

Yesterday we decided to go look at some dogs at the humane society of Utah. We weren't sure if we were going to get one or not. Then when we saw one that we really liked, he couldn't be separated from his brother. So we got both!

They are 3 yr old chihuahua mixes that used to live in California. Right now they kinda feel like they're too cool for Utah, but they are getting used to it. The one on top is Bitz and the other is Winky. I know Bitz looks sort of sad in his picture, but don't feel bad for him. He's actually a little helldog. The sad look is for sympathy. Winky is nice and calm though.

I haven't figured out which one it is yet, but one (or maybe both?) of them has some serious gas issues. Today on the way to the park I almost had to pull over. It was that bad.


Addendum: Jennifer (my sister) demanded that I insert this paragraph and give her credit. When she was doing her training for critical care nursing at the VA and learned all about EKGs, she told me that if I ever get two dogs I should name them Mobitz and Wenckebach (which are the names of two types of abnormal EKG rhythms). I thought that was pretty funny. So their official names are Mobitz and Wenckeback, but they are Bitz and Winky for short.

Who knew that SLC was cool enough to have a drive in movie theater? Grant made the discovery a few days ago. After a really long shift at Ann Taylor, Grant surprised me with a home cooked dinner and a trip to the drive in movies. We saw the new Batman movie. Somehow watching the movie in our own car made it really exciting. We brought our own candy and drinks and had a wonderful time.
