Shelves!

The other day, I mentioned to Grant that I would love some built-in shelves in the kitchen for all my cookbooks. Well, a week later, they were installed and ready to go. Is this one of those lessons in "ask and you shall receive"? If so, then I am going to start asking more often! Grant used this project as a practice round for the big built-in desk project he is taking on in the loft. I would say he is ready!

Now I have a lot more counter-top space as well. I wish Grant had more time off to do home projects. They are so gratifying.

16 Women in One House

On Tuesday, Grant came home to a house full of 16 women! I hosted Partners in Medicine's monthly bunco night. If you haven't heard of bunco, it is a gambling dice game with no strategy. If you can count, you can play. Grant quarantined himself to the bedroom for the night and said it sounded like a gang of hyenas.

It was a fun night of socializing, and I won $90! Now that is the type of party I like to host!

4 out of 5

We have now been to 4 out of the 5 national parks in Utah and we still have two more years to go. I feel pretty proud of that statement. I was so excited to meet Leah and Peter in Arches National Park last weekend. What is better than visiting with an old friend?

It was the last leg of their camp across America trip from Arkansas to California and back. When we arrived, it was about a billion degrees out, so we decided what better time for a sunny hike!

We hiked a couple of miles to the Double O arch. There was a preliminary arch along the way to get us excited.

Grant had some moments of deep reflection during the hike.

Old friends are like family. Can't you just feel the love in the picture above? Grant was just happy to drink some water after the hike.

Leah and Peter have become camping top chefs. They cooked us shrimp and veggie kabobs with rice and a gourmet salad. It was better than what I could have cooked at home with all the modern day amenities.

What a fun and fast trip. I wish we had more time to visit, but jobs started calling our name.

High Uintas

How much weight can I carry on my back? This was the question as we pack for a backpacking trip up to the High Uinta Mountains in northeastern Utah.

The Uinta's contain over 1,000 natural lakes. You can literally start hiking in any direction and stumble across lake after lake.

We were joined by our outdoorsy friends, Matt and Shireen. They are the type of people who could build a canoe with a match and pocket knife. They are the perfect people to go with to explore the outdoors.

We hiked a couple of miles in and found a camping spot by Lake Jewel.

We hiked to a few nearby lakes as well.

The boys did some fly fishing, the girls sat and talked. Here's the fish that Matt caught. Looks like a leopard.

The Taintors brought their dog Lebowski along. He was in doggie heaven. What dog wouldn't want a tree for a pillow?

Can't get much more beautiful than this. And to add to it, the weather was perfect, low 80's in the day, 50's at night.

The more we explore Utah, the more amazed we are by its beauty.

Visit de Millie

Mom came out for Utah's Pioneer Day. Ok, that wasn't really the reason for the trip, but it did fall over Pioneer Day holiday. July 24 is a state holiday where we stop and remember the pioneers who discovered Salt Lake City. It's a bigger holiday than July 4 around here.

The theme of this trip was relaxation. We didn't have a lot of sight seeing activities on the to do list, instead, we cooked and hiked. To kick off the trip, Mom brought "taste of Texas" treats for us. Yummy. The way to my heart is directly through Central Market tortillas.

Mom is working out more and more and wanted to try some Utah hiking. We worked out every day that she was here. Day one was hiking all around Red Butte Gardens. It was gorgeous, but still a little hot.

The second day was walking at the Farmers Market where we stumbled upon this bike powered smoothie stand. People are so creative when it comes to going green and staying healthy.

That same day, we headed up Big Cottonwood canyon to hike around Silver Lake. Halfway through the hike, Mom decided that she wanted to go quite a bit further and hike up to Lake Solitude.

It took us a good 3+ hours, but we made it. It was a huge physical accomplishment. I was so happy and proud of her. Not only was it a long hike, it was at 9,000 feet elevation.

Day three and four was hiking at City Creek right near the Capitol building. We finally learned that we needed to start early to beat the heat.

We also ate amazing food using Farmers Market produce. Here are some authentic Texas fajitas.

Our treat at the end of the trip were hour-long massages. This is me after the massage. I could barely keep my eyes open.

Grant was actually sick most of the trip. He was sneezing so hard his body ached. He did get to do a few activities with us, we just didn't get a photo of him. Here we are eating Indian food.

We highly recommend relaxing themed trips for all.
