Nowruz

Nowruz is the Persian New Year. It marks the first day of spring and the beginning of the year in Iran. This year it fell on March 20. After seeing the Morshedi family party in Little Rock over our web cam, we were feeling a little lonely and sorry for ourselves. To help cheer us up, we decided to have our own mini version of a Nowruz celebration.

Yesterday, Grant and I found a little whole in the wall international market where we were able to purchase the ingredients we needed. Then, we spent all afternoon cooking Persian food. We had a few friends over and ate and ate and ate! Here is what we cooked...

Rice (can't have a Persian meal without rice)
Ghormeh Sabzi (Green Herb Stew)
Kababs
Tomato and Cucumber salad
Stewed tomatoes

We had so much fun cooking. We don't get to do that together very often right now. The meal was a big hit. One of our friends is half Persian, so it was really special for her as well. And boy am I glad we have leftovers!

Annie, Matt, Shireen, me, and Grant.

Glorious food!

More food.

Ghormeh Sabzi (Grant made this, I just posed for the picture)

Grant with the Kabobs.

Thank you Ali for teaching me how to make a Persian meal, I think I am ready for my taste test! Aide Shoma Moborak (or Happy New Year).

On a side note...

My Mom is slowly becoming Persian! After we moved up to SLC, my Mom realized that she probably wouldn't see Grant's family for a few years. She decided that wouldn't do, so she visited them this weekend in Little Rock. She got to be a part of the Persian celebration. And boy did she love every minute of it. We are so blessed to have parents that enjoy each other's company. It almost makes me tear up.

WOW! Are you guys good or what? Chelo Kabob & Ghormeh Sabzi? I am very impressed. The food in the picture looked so good, I could almost smell it. I am glad you guys had fun.

The idea of getting you on the webcam whenever the family gets together here is so you guys don't forget how much fun it is to be here with the family. So you won't get this wild idea of staying in Utah just because you like to ski.
(Is it working?)

We all love you very much and can't wait to see you.

Love, Dad/Ali
p.s. we had a lot of fun with Millie too and I am glad she came to visit.
