D-daddy

This week, I lost my Grandfather who I called "D-daddy." I called him that all my life. I guess Grandfather is a little hard for a kid to say. He was 87 years old and lived an amazingly full life. He was a true Renaissance man who was a life-long learner. He died peacefully in his sleep after being admitted to the hospital for pneumonia.

The memory that keeps popping up in my mind is sitting on his lap as a child and hearing him say...

Walk on the grass, walk on the grass (he would lightly bounce me on his knees)
Trot on the level, trot on the level (the bouncing would get more intense)
Over the rocks, over the rocks (I would be flying off his lap)
Boompity, boompity, boompity, boom (And I would go flying off his lap and he would set me on the floor)

It is interesting what your mind remembers when someone dies. I am missing him. The memorial service will be next Sunday in Denton, TX. Grant and I will be flying down for the long weekend. It will be nice to get to see family, but hard to realize that he is gone.

I love you D-daddy.

Yes, I remember him doing that to you and to me too as a little girl. I'm looking forward to family memory time next weekend. Love you, Mom
