A tale of two vacations

There was once a couple who took a trip to the far away land of San Antonio, Texas. There, one had a vacation full of shopping, sightseeing, winery tours, and sleeping in, while the other poor lad had a vacation full of uveitis, toxoplasmosis, and superior oblique palsies (which Grant tells me are all ophthalmology things).

Grant took a week of his precious vacation time to take a review course for his ophthalmology boards. It was an 8-5 intense review course that almost killed him. But don't feel too bad, he was able to have a little bit of fun in between days.

It was the anniversary of the fall of the Alamo, so we reminisced with some re-enactors about the good ole days.

Sunday was the Oscars, so my sweet Mom came down to SA with a huge spread of food and drinks for a watch party in our hotel. We hadn't watched the Oscars together for years, it was joyous and perfect.

We ate at a local restaurant that was just about to tip over. It was hit with flood waters decades ago and is leaning because of it. They say it passed inspection every year, but Grant wasn't convinced.

We discovered a killer SOL (sustainable, organic, and local) restaurant that serves up a mean lamb burger. It is connected to a car wash and laundry mat. They had live music and great beer. We need one of those out here in SLC.

We even made it to a Spurs game.

Then Grant had to head back to SLC to present some research he has been working on. So sadly, I was forced to shop and hang out with my Mom. What a hard life. We visited SAS shoe factory.

And at the end of the tour, they told me I HAD to purchase a pair of shoes. How rude. I mean, really.

Then it was off to the Texas hill country for a wine tasting.

We went out to eat at a fancy restaurant where we watched for SXSW stars.

And we actually saw a star. Below is Jonah Hill (in the yellow hat) who is the big headed guy in all those movies with Seth Rogen.

It was a great trip, I just wish Grant could have had more time to relax. Such is the life of a resident.
