We left late on Friday evening to make the 5 hour drive to southern Utah where the race was being held. We didn't get to the hotel until midnight and I had to be up by 4:30 a.m. to get ready for the race. It was definitely a rough night. But once that morning alarm went off, the adrenaline started to kick in and I was set.
Grant woke up with me and we headed to the race start. I sort of forgot that it was in the desert and wasn't prepared for how cold it was in the morning. It was in the 50's when we got to the starting line. I was in my shorts and shirt and was freezing.
The race started and I was on top of the world. I felt good the entire race. I was prepared and ready for the distance and heat. Grant drove to the end of the race to capture the footage of me crossing the finish line. Here is a video of me sprinting at the end.
My goal was to run the race in 2:20 and I did it in 2:13. Again, that adrenaline is amazing stuff. Grant was there to cheer me on and was a good support. It was definitely not easy, but I am so glad I did it. I think I am hooked now. What half marathon should I run next? Any suggestions?
I was representing my company so I have a shirt my boss had made for me on.
All for the glory of the shirt!
After the race I took at LONG nap. Then it was off to hike in the National Park and see the famous hoodoo rock formations.
That is Grant down on the rock below.
When I saw this descent, my legs started to cry out in pain! But somehow I did it.
